Celcom Axiata launches Secure SMS solutions

CELCOM Axiata Bhd has launched a secure messaging solution for its wireless subscribers and enterprise customers.

Celcom yesterday deployed Celltrust Corp's patents-pending, carrier grade CellTrust SecureSMS Consumer and CellTrust SecureSMS Enterprise technology.

The CellTrust SecureSMS application for the BlackBerry operating system is now available for download by Celcom's wireless subscribers on the BlackBerry application store.

"Secure SMS is particularly critical now as many security threats have arisen over the recent months with regular SMS communication. Secure messaging capabilities will set Celcom apart from other wireless operators in the region," CellTrust chief executive officer Sean Moshir said in a statement.

Telecoms and datacom market research firm Infonetics Research Inc Security principal analyst Jeff Wilson said: "Security product companies are hard at work developing a wide range of security clients for mobile phones, from anti-malware and virtual private network access to smartphone application security, but secure short messaging system (SMS) has been largely ignored."

Celcom has also made the CellTrust SecureSMS Enterprise appliance model available to its corporate, governmental and other enterprise customers featuring either a dedicated or hosted server option, which can be integrated into their own enterprise infrastructure.

Celcom and CellTrust also plan to introduce a new Secure MMS application this year, as part of a total secure messaging suite.
